A Century Of Collaboration

A Century Of Collaboration

Coachbuilder Zagato and automaker Alfa Romeo began their collaboration in 1921 and have created over 150 stunning models. To celebrate the two Italian companies working together for a century, Zagato began to work on a one- off Alfa Romeo new model last year, and the final product has been unveiled.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato started from the Giulia Quadrifoglio Manual with V6 engine, Zagato then designed a unique two-door Coupé body in carbon fibre and a shortened wheelbase. The one-off model was also upgraded to the latest GTAm specifications while retaining its 6-speed mechanical gearbox, meaning the twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 engine now pushes 533 bhp and 600 Nm of torque.

The design of the special Giulia SWB Zagato is related to its owner too. The German Zagato customer showed interest during the early stage of the project, and as an avid Alfa Romeo collector he regularly drives an 1990 Alfa Romeo S.Z. The front end of this 2023 SZ features 3+3 headlamp concept that can be found on the 1990s SZ as well as the latest Tonale, while the rear is crafted with Zagato’s signature ‘truncated tail’. The two humps on the roof, another iconic element of the brand, have been reworked for aerodynamics without affecting interior ergonomics. The interior is also filled with carbon fibre, and shares a similar green and black colour palette for its details and accents.

It’s also worth mentioning that some of these photos were shot on the ‘La Pista’ circuit in Arese, bringing the new Giulia SWB back to the birthplace of Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ and Giulia TZ.
