Built To Last

While there are plenty of wireless earphones on the market, for the sophisticated audiophiles amongst us, wired models seem to be the only way to go. Sennheiser has just announced its latest wired model catering for that exact fussy crowd — the IE 600.

The first thing you may notice on the Sennheiser IE 600 are the shiny, metallic housings. The material itself is certainly a unique choice, as it can be found on the drilling head of the NASA Mars Rover. ZR01 amorphous zirconium is a metal with a glass-like atomic structure, and it is harder and more bend resistant than high-performance steel. The housings are fabricated using a metal-powder-based 3D printing method and then hand-finished, resulting in these extremely durable, scratch-free pieces.

The IE 600 is fitted with a single 7 mm driver that works together with the brand’s TrueResponse transducer to offer a wide frequency range and low distortion. The acoustic back volume inside the nozzle has been meticulously tuned to deliver a neutral, intimate, and emotional sound that especially excels for vocals, while the dual two chamber absorbers help eliminate masking resonances.

The earphones support a cable of 4.8 mm or below, and para-aramid reinforced unbalanced and balanced cables of 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm sizes respectively are included. Silicone and memory foam earbud tips in three sizes can also be found in the box and should provide a comfortable seal for any shape of ears.
