Casio Drops Slimmest Ever G-STEEL Watches

G-SHOCK‘s metal-cased G-STEEL line welcomes four slim new, low-energy references this week.

A newly designed module inside the four new GST-B400 watches with fewer internal components allows for cases just 12.9mm deep and power consumption nearly 56% less than that of its predecessor.

The new lower power requirements also mean that the dial doesn’t need to take in as much light to charge its battery, allowing Casio to create an improved, more opaque dial design, which has also been boosted by inset pieces which further extend the metallic aesthetic of the watch.

The blue and newly developed deep red shades are applied to the dial using vapor deposition followed by numerous layers of clear coat to play with the light.

When connected to the corresponding smartphone app via low-energy Bluetooth, time adjustment is automatically performed based on location and a Time & Place function allows the wearer to log current time and location on a map with a single button press. Three watches feature stainless steel bracelets while the fourth is secured on a resin strap.

The four new GST-B400 models drop later this week exclusively via G-SHOCK before reaching retailers in mid-June. Prices range from £299 ($423 USD) to £479 ($678 USD).

In other watch news, Pablo Picasso’s personal watch sells at Bonhams.
