
Central Asia, Gandhara, and Tibet

Because of its location along major trade routes, Central Asia has had a turbulent history, and much of its surviving artwork is fragmentary.
The museum’s Gandharan and Central Asian art covers a diverse geographic and cultural area and includes some rare pieces from the ancient kingdom of Gandhara, which encompassed modern-day Pakistan, Afghanistan, and northeastern India, countries that are now considered part of South Asia.
Tibetan art is included here as well.
