Comme des Garçons and Converse Team Up for Red-Hot Chuck 70 Sneakers

Trust Rei Kawakubo to put a fresh spin on a shoe that has been worn to death in the past decade. We’re talking about the Chuck 70 sneakers interpreted by Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons Play label in collaboration with Converse, and now tricked out in red midsoles.

The new sneakers are offered in low-top and high-top versions, both crafted from premium canvas. The heart-and-eyes logo, a signature element of the CDG Play x Converse line since their first Chuck Taylor All Star pair launched in 2009, still peeks out on the side of the shoes.

The update, as mentioned, lies in the flashy midsoles, which now come in a striking scarlet to match the logo and are applied using the foxing technique. There’s also a contrasting pinstripe that runs along the uppers of the shoes, as highlighted in a campaign captured by fashion photographer Craig McDean.
