Dior's Kim Jones Makes His First Foray Into Digital Fashion

Digital fashion has become one of the hottest commodities in the metaverse, especially in video games as the demand from players of all ages and gender grows for more choice of luxury digital apparel to customise avatars exactly in their image. Fashion’s biggest players have been more than happy to meet their demands and get into the action, from Balenciaga’s collaboration with Fortnite to Tommy Hilfiger’s limited-edition collection on Roblox.
In the last year, French fashion house Dior has jumped in digital fashion with two feet, hosting its first metaverse fashion show in China, partnering with metaverse avatar platform Reader Player Me, and now collaborating with Gran Turismo 7, one of the earliest racing games developed for PlayStation and continues to be a favourite among gamers with every iteration.
This latest collaboration, the first digital fashion project led by Dior Men artistic director Kim Jones, is a surprising shift of gears for the British fashion visionary, who shared his doubts about the virtual space earlier this year. Designed in partnership with by the Japanese Studio Polyphony Digital, a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc., the capsule collection consists of custom driver outfits, as well as a customised vintage car, the De Tomaso Mangusta, to race around the Gran Turismo roads in style.
