Reimagining An Iconic Design
The very first Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet watch debuted in 2019, and as of the end of 2022, over 30 models have been released under the well-loved series. For the lastest Code 11.59 timepiece, Audemars Piguet is reintroducing the Starwheel complication that was first incorporated in an AP watch in 1991.
While the wandering hours complication has a history that dates well before the 1990s, AP gave it a modern take through its original Starwheel, and once again with the latest watch for the Code 11.59 collection. The 41 mm, three-layer, two-tone case combines black ceramic and 18-carat white gold. On the blue aventurine dial, there are three black PVD-coated aluminium wandering hours discs, each disc features four numbers as hour indicators. The complication displays the time by constantly rotating and having the current hour number pointing at the arc showing the minutes, as seen at the top of the dial.
The complex complication is powered by the in-house automatic calibre 4310, which itself is based on the calibre 4309. It has a power reserve of 70 hours, and is water resistant to 30 metres. The watch also features double glare-proofed sapphire crystal, a glare-proofed sapphire caseback, and a textured black rubber-coated strap with 18-carat white gold pin buckle.
