Rhude Takes Inspiration From BODE
By now, we’re all obsessed with Emily Bode‘s eponymous label BODE, and the designer’s usage of old materials and upcycled fabrics. Worn by names such as Harry Styles, Zayn, Bella Hadid, and more, spotted in the remake of Gossip Girl, and worn to the Met Gala by Lorde, BODE is the moment – and Rhude seems to think so, too.
Fans of BODE will recognize its signature vintage Americana-inspired aesthetic pretty much anywhere, and pieces from Rhude’s latest collection are borrowing several design cues. From the logos and graphics to the silhouettes, the pieces are directly inspired by Emily Bode’s label, and may even be a little too inspired.
Rhude has always been a staple label within streetwear, frequently playing with silhouettes including tracksuits, varsity jackets, and bowling shirts, as well as tapping big names such as Future for its recent campaigns. Now, it seems like the label is starting to slowly experiment with new styles.
Of course, this always happens with brands – as trends evolve, so do the labels themselves – in order to stay relevant. With BODE’s rise to the top, it comes as no surprise that other brands would try to replicate its success in order to give customers more options, but would you rather pay $500 for the Rhude shorts rather than a pair of BODE shorts? It remains to be seen.
But can BODE’s success be replicated? It is hard to say. The label has built up a cult following from its laid-back approach and unique aesthetic, and despite its recent growth, it still remains true to its humble beginnings in New York City with its tailoring shop and café.
One thing is certain, and that is that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If you’re looking to get your hands on “RHODE,” the Rhude pieces are available on Mr. Porter.
