Hyundai will be launching its first full electric high-performance model, the IONIQ 5 N, in 2023. Although no real details on the new car have been announced, the South Korean automaker recently unveiled the RN22e and N Vision 74 concepts, presumably in an effort to build hype for the upcoming sporty IONIQ. While the RN22e shares the body design of the production model IONIQ 6 and is paired with the innovative Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), it’s the N Vision 74 that has been capturing everyone’s attention.

The stunning exterior of the N Vision 74 is inspired by the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept from 1974, which was penned by legendary designer Giorgetto Giugiaro – the creator of DMC DeLorean, Maserati Ghibli, and many other iconic models. The Pony Coupe’s wedge-shaped, futuristic design and unique B pillar has been carried forward to the N Vision 74, and modernised with Parametric Pixel lighting, while a digital cluster and analogue buttons have been added to the interior.

The N Vision 74 combines EV technology with an advanced hydrogen fuel cell system, which is inspired by the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo concept that debuted back in 2015. The hybrid structure features a fuel cell system and battery-electric powerplant that allows for improved cooling efficiency. Two motors are fitted at the rear, generating over 500 kW of power and 900 Nm of torque. The top speed is set at 250 km/h, and the 600 km driving range is supported with fast recharging capabilities.

Hyundai stresses that both RN22e and N Vision 74 are ‘rolling lab’ concepts, meaning the advanced technologies on them will continue to be tested and verified by engineers, and hopefully applied to future N road cars.
