It behooves us to wonder: did all the designers collectively decide on making the train the number one must have in red carpet dressing this season? Rihanna may have pioneered the look on the Met Gala red carpet in 2015 with her Guo Pei cape, but this year, the celebrities have taken it to extremes.

Take for example Simone Biles’s 88 pounds dress, dreamed up by the geniuses behind Area, which was hand-embellished with Swarovski crystals and took over 6,650 hours to complete, reports Vogue. On the other end of the train spectrum, Billie Eilish’s frothy, peach Oscar de la Renta gown boasted hundreds of yards of tulle that made an impact on the steps of the Met.
