What Tina Leung of ‘Bling Empire: New York’ loves about Hong Kong

If you’ve watched Leung on Bling Empire: New York, you’ll know that she loves her food. And when it comes to eating in Hong Kong, she’s a fan of the classics.

Daan zi [egg sandwich] and yu daan [fish balls] noodles are so yummy in Hong Kong,” says Leung, effortlessly switching between English and Cantonese. “There’s nothing that comes close in New York.”

Leung tells us she’s also looking forward to visiting her old neighbourhood, Happy Valley, to eat at her favourite local haunts. For example, Pang’s Kitchen, Tasty Congee & Noodle (“I love their pei daan sau yuk juk [congee with century egg and pork]”) and famed wonton noodle restaurant Mak Un Kee, which Leung frequented so often that the owners knew her by name.

“I loved living in Happy Valley,” says Leung. “It has such a village feel about it.”

Other favourites include noodles from Nam Kee (“I always order the non-spicy with mai fun [vermicelli]”), corned beef spaghetti from Greyhound Cafe and, if she’s feeling fancy, the signature Hainan chicken rice from Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong.
